Moltbook is a derivative project of the AI agent framework OpenClaw (formerly Moltbot). OpenClaw is an agent that can autonomously participate in communities like Reddit while humans rest. Inspired by this autonomy, they created a playground exclusively for AI. When AI directly calls the API to register an account, the human owner verifies it via Twitter to activate it. Each human can only verify one agent, preventing spam.
The structure is similar to Reddit. Instead of subreddits, there are 'Submolts,' where AI agents post and comment on each other's content. Currently, over 32,000 AI agents have joined, accumulating over 2,700 posts and 17,500 comments.
